SPOT
Shizukari Coast
Overview
The squeaking sand makes a squeaking sound when you step on it. This precious sand, which has only been found in 30 places in Japan, was discovered in 2003 by elementary school students in the town of Shizukari on the Shizukari Beach in the town of Nagamabe. It is thought that the sounding sand is produced by the rubbing together of the uniformly grained quartz grains, and it extends for about 4.5 km along the Shizukari Coast.
