Kinjiro Kida Museum of Art
Kinjiro Kida is a solitary painter from Iwanai. He is a representative painter of the Western painting world in Hokkaido. Born in Iwanai in 1893, he developed a passion for painting as a boy. A fateful encounter with Takeo Arishima led to his decision to spend his entire life in Iwanai and to pick up a paintbrush. After Arishima published his novel "The Trouble of Being Born" about his interaction with Kinjiro Kida, he became known as the model painter in the novel.
At Kinjiro Kida, located in the Iwanai Marine Park, his works are exhibited along with the time period in which they were created. His works with a dynamic touch seem to convey his love for Iwanai and the passion he poured into his paintings. In addition to exhibiting the works of Kinjiro Kida, the museum also hosts unique special exhibitions and concerts.
