Cherry Blossoms on Mount Horai

Overview

A small hill 260 meters above sea level near the main town of Aibetsu-cho is Mount Horai, known for its cherry blossoms. Young people who settled in the area in 1897 planted cherry trees several times. The town decided to designate cherry trees as "town trees" in 1989 and planted 600 trees. A cherry blossom festival is held during the blooming season.
Cherry trees also bloom brightly in Fureai Street, a multipurpose plaza that is used as a venue for shrine festivals, summer festivals, and other events.
