Shirokane Blue Pond

A mysterious pond with a blue water surface. During disaster prevention work on Mt. Tokachi, the water that accumulated in the dam took on a mysterious blue color, and combined with the dead larch trees, created a fantastical landscape. Before long, it came to be called the "Blue Pond." We recommend visiting on a windless, clear morning, by all means, and staying overnight in Biei to enjoy the mystical scenery.

You can enjoy various blue colors depending on the season and weather, such as the contrast between the fresh greenery and the pond, or the surface of the water colored by autumn leaves. Be sure to enjoy the fantastic BIEI BLUE, which has different expressions with each season. When visiting, please enjoy it while following the tourist etiquette and photography rules.

During the winter, the blue water surface cannot be seen due to snow accumulation, so the Blue Pond in Biei Town is lit up so that you can enjoy it even in winter.

Note: Please do not step over the fence into the Blue Pond! It could be life-threatening! The pond freezes over in mid-winter, but please do not step onto the lake surface as there is a risk of the ice cracking.
