SPOT
Shirogane Blue Pond
A mysterious pond where the surface of the water appears blue. During the disaster prevention work on Mt. Tokachi, water accumulated in a weir and became mysteriously blue in color, creating a fantastic scene with the dead larch trees. The pond has been called "Blue Pond" ever since. We recommend staying in Biei on a clear, windless morning to enjoy the mystical scenery.
You can enjoy various blue colors depending on the season and weather, such as the contrast between the fresh greenery and the pond, or the surface of the water colored by the autumn leaves in fall. Be sure to visit the fantastic BIEI BLUE, where you can enjoy different expressions from season to season. When visiting, please enjoy yourself while observing the rules of photography as well as sightseeing etiquette.
During the winter, the blue surface of the water cannot be seen due to snow accumulation. Therefore, the Blue Pond in Biei-cho is illuminated so that visitors can enjoy it even in winter.
(Note) Please do not climb over the fence and enter the blue pond! It may be fatal! The pond freezes over in midwinter, but please do not go down to the lake surface as there is a risk of the ice breaking.
