SPOT
White beard's waterfall
A waterfall with a drop of 30m that looks like a white beard. The subsurface water of the Tokachidake mountain range, which flowed out from between natural rocks, vigorously flows down into the mountain stream, and the sparkling cobalt blue Biei River is raising spray, a scene which can be seen up close, and it is one of the tourist spots of "Biei Shirogane Hot Spring Town". It is a waterfall classified as a rare "subsurface waterfall" even in Japan. The river below, which is overlooked from the bridge, is commonly called "Blue River," and its blue flow has become the source of the "Shirogane Blue Pond" located downstream.
You can also enjoy the night light-up, which became permanent from November Heisei 30. In winter, the contrast between the waterfall streaks and the white of the snow, and the rock surface becomes prominent, and the water spray and steam rising from the waterfall create frost flowers on the trees, becoming a more fantastic scenery. The blue flow of the Blue River, which pierces straight through the white snow, also emerges even more vividly in winter.
