Otaru Sankaku Market

Otaru Sankaku Market was named for the triangular shape of its land and roof. It began around 1948 when 7 to 8 street vendors set up stalls in front of Otaru Station. Subsequently, more vendors opened one after another, and it developed into a morning market bustling with not only visitors but also people coming to shop from nearby areas like the Ishikari and Shiribeshi regions, and from as far away as the Kamikawa and Hidaka regions.

With the motto 'Simply cheap!!', 16 shops line both sides of a narrow, sloping path about 200 meters long and 2 meters wide. It is the only market in Otaru City that is open every day, so you can visit with peace of mind anytime.

In addition to seafood such as crab, sea urchin, scallops, and fish, you can also buy vegetables, fruits, and daily necessities, making it very convenient for everyday shopping and choosing souvenirs. The cheerful calls from the staff at the shops on both sides enhance the market atmosphere, and negotiating prices with the unique shopkeepers is another pleasure unique to the market.

There are 6 eateries where you can enjoy meals from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM! Each eatery offers rice bowls with fresh seafood, daily set meals with seasonal ingredients, and you can even have the products you bought at the market cooked on the spot to create your own original rice bowl! Fill your stomach with fresh seafood and then tour the city of Otaru to further enhance your satisfaction!
