Sapporo City Museum Activity Center
"North - Its Nature and People" as a basic theme, as an activity base for the planning promotion of a natural history comprehensive museum, it was opened in November 2001. The field of activity, centering on the Ishikari Lowland, aims for a museum that grows and develops while accumulating human resources, actual materials, and information. Citizen participation as one of the big pillars of museum creation, for example, from 2008 to 2010, as "Sapporo Cicada Survey," a cicada exuviae survey by the cooperation of approximately 200 citizens was conducted, and its results are being published on the homepage and in leaflets. Inside the facility, besides the exhibition of Sapporo Dugong [1] and white whale fossils, and the collection exhibition room introducing the geohistory and flora and fauna of the Ishikari Lowland, courses for citizens and experiential learning sessions are also conducted in the practical training room and lecture room, and it is functioning as a museum that operates together with citizens.
