Sapporo Museum Activity Center
A museum that exchanges activities based on the principle of citizen participation. Fossil of a caecilian that solves the ancient Sapporo
Established in November 2001 as a base of activities to promote the plan for a comprehensive nature-related museum under the basic theme of "North, its nature and people". The museum aims to grow and develop while accumulating human resources, actual materials, and information. For example, from 2008 to 2010, the museum conducted a cicada shell survey with the cooperation of about 200 citizens as part of the "Sapporo Cicada Survey," and the results of the survey are published on its website and in leaflets. The museum functions as a museum that works together with citizens by exhibiting fossils of the Sapporo cicada[1] and cetacean, by having a collection and exhibition room that introduces the geological history, flora and fauna of the Ishikari Lowlands, and by holding lectures and hands-on learning sessions for citizens in the training room and lecture rooms.
