Atsugishi Waterfowl Observation Center
The Atsugishi Waterfowl Observation Center was built in 1993 as a base facility for activities to deepen understanding of waterfowl and other plants and animals, wetland conservation, and wise use of wetlands, as well as research and monitoring, in the Atsugishi Lake and Bekanbeushi Marsh, which was designated as a Ramsar wetland in 1993. The first floor features an exhibition room, a lecture room, and a museum.
On the first floor, there is an exhibition room and a lecture room, where visitors can view images of the marsh captured by observation cameras on a large screen, and learn about the entire marshland through photographs, explanatory panels, and a three-dimensional model. Visitors can also learn about the marshlands through photos, explanatory panels, and three-dimensional models. The museum also provides the latest information on the marshlands and offers instruction on the rules and etiquette of canoeing on the Betsukanbegawa River.
The second floor is an observation area where visitors can get a close-up view of the magnificent marshland near the mouth of the Bessanbegyu River. Visitors can also observe red-crowned cranes nesting in the marshlands and many migratory birds.
