Kitami Fuji Shrine
Kitami Fuji Shrine began in the Kyoho era (Edo period). It is said that the shrine was founded on a cape west of Kutsugata Port. Rishiri, also known as Mt. Fuji in the northern part of the country. In 1893, when the number of immigrants to the island began to increase, the shrine was built at its present location. During the annual festival (June 25), in which all the townspeople participate together, the special rituals of "Matsumae Tojo Nyugyo" and "Shikkasagari Yome Mai Ritual" are the most popular attractions. The Kutsugata area is filled with excitement.
