Overview

Rishiri Town honorary town resident, and even now by many people is beloved popular song lyricist Shigure Otoha (Shigure Otoha), in 1893, in Rishiri Town Kutsugata was born. After passing through service at Kutsugata Village Office and the Ministry of Finance Tax Bureau, in 1925, by Kodansha's request, he published "Bathed in the Morning Sun" (later "Port of Departing Ships") in the new popular magazine "King." This became a trigger, and he was scouted by Victor Record Company, wrote hit songs such as "Kimi Koishi" and "Naniwa Kouta," and became a popular lyricist. In 1960, a poetry monument "Port of Departing Ships" was erected at Kutsugata Cape. After this, the island's people came to call Kutsugata Cape "Donto Cape," as it is in the lyrics.
