SPOT
Nishiyama Crater Walking Path
In order to utilize the traces of the March 2000 eruption of Mt. Usu as a teaching tool for volcanic learning, the appearance of the disaster has been preserved as it was. A wooden walking trail has been developed to allow visitors to experience up close the threat of nature, including the crater that still emits steam, the geothermal zone, and buildings and roads that were damaged by cinders and crustal movement. There is no danger from eruptions at this time.
Guides are available to show visitors the damage while walking around the crater.
