The Tower of Dawn in Hokkaido
This is a symbolic tower of Kaminokuni, built on a hillside and medieval hill in Yahata Makino to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the foundation of Hokkaido.
The tower was designed with the basic theme of the encounter between medieval environmental modeling and modern sense of modeling, and the interaction between humans and nature such as the sun and wind.
The tower, which forms the center of the whole, is composed of double octagonal weights, and the spiral staircase expresses a strong will for the future.
The mesh-patterned exterior walls resonate with the strong winds characteristic of the region, creating a tone that subtly changes with the sun's radiance.
The tower is surrounded by a row of earthworks and fences that are modernized versions of the components of medieval mountain castles.
The three-way paths in the elliptical earthwork surrounding the "Plaza of the Sun" mark the direction of sunrise at the winter solstice, spring and autumnal equinoxes, and summer solstice, and visitors standing in the center of the tower can watch the sun rise, signaling the changing of the seasons.
