SPOT
Odori Park
An oasis in the business district, surrounded by approximately 4,700 trees of 92 species, including lilacs and Japanese elms.
Around the lawns and fountains, both tourists and citizens relax as they please. Although its name includes 'Park,' Odori Park is actually a street.
In 1871 (the 4th year of the Meiji era), a firebreak was created to divide the center of Sapporo into north and south. This became a road called Shiribeshi-dori, which was later renamed Odori. This usually relaxing and peaceful place also serves as a venue for some of Hokkaido's most representative events.
Stretching from east to west, Odori Park is divided into 12 blocks, from 1-chome to 12-chome, with each block separated by a crosswalk. The distance from one end of Odori Park to the other is about 1.5 km, which takes approximately 30 minutes to walk.
