Hills of thoroughbreds and Mt. Apoi, a UNESCO Global Geopark

Population:3,800
Samani Town is a nature-rich town located within the Hidaka Subprefecture of Hokkaido, with the magnificent Pacific Ocean to its front and the Hidaka Mountains at its back. Over ninety percent of the town is covered by deep forests, and its unique topography, where hilly areas extend right to the coastline, creates a dynamic landscape unlike any other.
The climate is strongly influenced by the ocean; summers are very cool, and winters are mild, making it one of the regions in Hokkaido with the least amount of snowfall. A major attraction is that it is very pleasant throughout the year, allowing for a comfortable lifestyle. These special natural conditions have nurtured "Mount Apoi," a treasure trove of alpine plants where valuable peridotite is exposed. Due to its high academic value, it was designated as a "UNESCO Global Geopark" in 2015.
The key industry is the primary sector, which utilizes the rich sea and land. A short distance from the national highway, a beautiful ranch landscape typical of the Hidaka region unfolds, with thoroughbreds leisurely grazing on a green carpet. Furthermore, it is a town full of charm where you can enjoy sea fishing, mountain climbing, and gathering wild edible plants with each season, and spend a luxurious time surrounded by serene, grand nature, such as by touring the "Eight Views of Samani" for its beautiful scenery.
