Population:5,900
Ikeda Town is a moderately convenient rural town with a population of about 6,200, located slightly east of the center of the Tokachi Plain in Hokkaido. It has excellent transportation access, allowing for smooth visits from the Central Hokkaido area and the Tokyo metropolitan area. It is about two hours and fifty minutes from Sapporo City by limited express train or the Doto Expressway, about fifty minutes by car from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport, and about thirty-five minutes by car from Obihiro City, the central city of Tokachi.
The climate is continental, with a very dynamic natural environment featuring an annual temperature difference of over fifty degrees Celsius, with summer temperatures exceeding thirty degrees and winter temperatures dropping below minus twenty degrees. On the other hand, rainfall and snowfall are relatively low throughout the year, and it is characterized by many sunny days in winter, known as "Tokachi-bare" (Tokachi clear skies), where a refreshingly clear blue sky spreads out amidst the severe cold.
The key industries are agriculture, livestock farming, and viticulture, which take advantage of the rich land. In particular, "Tokachi Wine," born in 1963 as the nation's first municipal winery, is synonymous with the town and is highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally. It is a peaceful town full of culinary charm, where you can tour tourist spots like the Wine Castle and fully enjoy the vast nature of Tokachi, delicious meat, and mellow wine to your heart's content.
