Shiranuka is a town in eastern Hokkaido, rich in nature and surrounded by the sea and mountains. The ingredients harvested from this environment are truly a blessing of nature, offering a variety of exquisite products. In addition to seafood like willow octopus, whelk, horsehair crab, and shishamo smelt, the town's specialties include dairy products like cheese, livestock products like lamb and venison, and even the shiso (perilla) used in the shiso shochu "Tantakatan."
It is also the town where the first coal mine in Hokkaido was established, and you can feel its history in various parts of the town. Furthermore, during certain seasons, festivals celebrating the Ainu culture, the indigenous people of Hokkaido, are still held.
Shiranuka has cool summers and little snowfall in winter. Please come and visit this town of rich nature and food.
