The town of two oceans, rich history, and utopian dairy lands

Population:14,500
Yakumo Town, located in southwest Hokkaido, is uniquely famous as the only town in Japan facing both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. Formed by a merger in 2005, it combines two distinct histories: the Yakumo area, developed by the Owari Clan in the late 19th century as a "utopia," and the Kumaishi area, which thrived as a historic fishing hub during the Edo period. Today, it is a center for dairy, forestry, and fisheries. Visitors can enjoy the diverse flavors of two oceans and rich farm products in this beautiful, historic land.
