Facing the Sea of Japan, known for its rough waves, to the west, the town is rich in seafood such as flounder and flatfish, as well as sea urchin, abalone, and shrimp.
The famous "Amanogawa" river, which flows northwest through the town, is known as a mecca for sweetfish (ayu) fishing. To its north, farmland spreads out, and the town boasts one of the highest production volumes of snow peas in all of Hokkaido.
