SPOT
Iiozan
From the summit of this 159-meter-high mountain, you can see not only the city of Kaminokuni, but also the islands of Okushiri and Oshima in the Sea of Japan and the coastline stretching in the direction of Kumaishi. The area around the summit is famous for the blooming of about 500 species of wildflowers and the Ezo-Yamatsutsuji azalea. The area is designated as Hinoyama Provincial Natural Park because of its blessed views and nature.
The symbolic tower of Kaminokuni, the Tower of Dawn, is located about 1.5 km from the trailhead, and there is also a campground that can be used freely, as well as Katsuyama-kan, a nationally designated historical site that tells the history of the town, and its guidance facilities.
In spring, when the Ezo-yamatsutsuji azaleas are in full bloom, the area is also popular as the setting for the Iouzan Festival.
