A Beautiful Winter Contrast of White Snow and Blue Water: The Frozen "Blue Pond" in Biei and More [Hokkaido Mirai Note (71)]

Welcome to "Hokkaido Mirai Note," a collection of Hokkaido scenes we want to preserve for the future.
From the wonderful photos of Hokkaido taken and submitted by all of you, we are pleased to introduce three carefully selected posts again this time!

The Beautifully Frozen "Blue Pond" (Biei Town)

This is the Blue Pond on a snowy early morning.
I captured the warm light of the sun reflecting on the pond, which was thinly covered with ice.
This was a fleeting moment just as the ice was beginning to melt under the strong sunlight.

The Blue Pond in Biei Town is captivating in every season.
It's popular for its beautiful blue water that reflects the surrounding nature, but the contrast between the white snow and the blue water peeking through the newly formed ice is exceptionally beautiful.
Even after the snow completely covers the blue surface, you can still enjoy the winter light-up event💡

Relaxing Spotted Seals (Rumoi City)

Wild spotted seals have become an annual sight in Rumoi City.
If you go early in the morning, you can see them relaxing on the tetrapods.
This one was sleeping comfortably, basking in the morning sun.

Dozens of wild spotted seals come to the coast of Rumoi City in herds from late autumn through winter to spend the cold months!
They return to the north in the spring, so this is a sight you can only see in winter ❄

Watching the seals relax and laze around is so soothing.

Oysters and Whisky (Akkeshi Town)

Akkeshi Whisky 'Kaki no Komoriuta' (Lullaby for Oysters) can only be enjoyed within the town.
I was in charge of the label illustration.
Please enjoy it while feeling the salty air and climate of Akkeshi Bay.
On this day, I had it with a drizzle of whisky over the oysters.

Akkeshi's specialty, oysters, are famous for being available to eat raw all year round 🦪
The flavor varies with the season, so you can enjoy them endlessly.
The Akkeshi Whisky named after this specialty, 'Kaki no Komoriuta', is a perfect match!
It's a delicacy best savored right there in Akkeshi, with the scent of the sea breeze.
