More Than Just the Dr. Clark Statue! Free Winter Activities at Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

The sight of Dr. Clark standing tall, pointing straight ahead. When you think of the "Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill" (hereafter Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill), the statue of Dr. Clark is incredibly famous, but there's actually more to it than that. Did you know that in winter, you can enjoy a variety of activities? Let's take a look at what's available!

Because it's such a famous tourist spot, people from outside Hokkaido might think Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill is in the center of Sapporo. In reality, it's located in an area called Hitsujigaoka in Toyohira Ward, Sapporo, about a 30-minute drive from Sapporo Station. If you don't have a car, you'll need to take the subway and then a bus.

It's precisely because of this suburban location that it boasts such a vast area, which becomes a hub for various activities during the snowy season. It's called the "Hitsujigaoka Snow Park 2022." This year, it is scheduled to be open until Sunday, March 6th.

You can see people actually experiencing the activities in the video at the end, but let's introduce a few specific items from the lineup. First up is tube sliding.

This is an activity where you slide down a snowy hill on a tube. There are single and double tubes, so even young children can enjoy it with an adult. Be warned, it's surprisingly addictive for adults too.

And then, there's cross-country skiing.

You walk through a pure white snowfield with skis on. Don't worry if you can't ski! There's a short course for beginners and small children, so you can explore the silvery-white world with peace of mind.

We also recommend "mini-snowman building," where you can create your own unique snowman. It's fun for each family member to make one and line them up. Don't forget to take a commemorative photo with your snowmen.

There are plenty of other ways to enjoy the snow country, like a snow slide (mini slide) and a kamakura (snow hut)! Why not have a blast with so much energy that you forget all about the cold?

※Be sure to check out the video we filmed of people actually playing in the snow activities!
