Iwamizawa City

Every region has its own sweets that have been loved for a long time. This time, we will introduce "Tengu Manju", a sweet that is known to all Iwamizawa residents. Let's take a look at what kind of manju it is.

Tengu Manju is manufactured and sold by Tengu Manju Honpo, which was founded in 1954. There are currently two stores in Iwamizawa City, the Ekimae store and the Gojo store, and this time we visited the Gojo store, where the manufacturing department is located.

Upon entering the store, you will be greeted by a display of sweets displayed in an old-fashioned showcase. Let's check out the Tengu Manju right away!

There are three colors: red, white, and brown! They are small enough to be eaten in two or three bites, and are all reasonably priced at 110 yen each (tax included). This makes it a great way to try all three colors.

When you break it open, you'll find it's filled with plenty of smooth bean paste. It feels just as sweet as a traditional manju. It has a simple flavor that makes you think, "Yes, this is exactly what I wanted to eat."

A must-have set to buy with the Tengu Manju is the Kusa Manju (110 yen including tax). It comes in two varieties, smooth and chunky, and the sweetness of the bean paste and the flavor of mugwort fill your mouth.

If you want to try something a little different, how about the "Banana" (110 yen including tax). It's named after a banana, and it looks like a banana too. Of course, it tastes like a banana when you eat it. It's actually a steamed bread, and it has a slightly sweet and gentle texture.

Among the many products at Tengu Manju Honpo, the most popular is the "Soft Serve Ice Cream" (290 yen including tax). It's very rich and filling, and you can buy it for just three 100 yen coins, so it's a great deal!

All of the products are reasonably priced and have a flavor that never gets old, so it's no wonder they have been popular with Iwamizawa residents for so long. If you visit Iwamizawa, be sure to buy some for yourself or as a souvenir.
