Hokkaido is dotted with view spots that overlook the vast expanse of nature. Today we will introduce one of these, Maoi Bungakudai, a view spot that represents Naganuma Town! Maoi Bungakudai is located on top of Mt. Chokanzan, about 5km from the downtown area of Naganuma Town. Look for a small sign that says "Promenade Information Board."

Park your car in the square with a sign that says "Parking lot" and head to Maoi Literature Observatory. It's less than a minute away from the parking lot, but be aware that this parking lot is closed in the winter. When you arrive at Maoi Literature Observatory, the first thing that catches your eye is a magnificent literature monument with the words "Maoi Genya" written on it.

In fact, this was built to commemorate the awarding of the first Higuchi Ichiyo Prize for "Maoi Genya," a full-length novel by Tsujimura Motoko, which is set in Naganuma during the early days of development. That's why it's called "Maoi Literature Platform." And on the other side of the literature monument is...

A breathtaking view! The beautiful rural landscape of Naganuma Town and the Ishikari Plain spread out before your eyes in a 180-degree field. The patchwork-like scenery is a dynamism unique to Hokkaido. In the distance, the urban areas of Kitahiroshima and Sapporo spread out.

On the way up to Maoi Literature Observatory, there was a signboard that said "Promenade Information Board." To the left of the signboard, there was a narrow mountain path. Next, let's walk along this mountain path.

Then you will arrive at the "Chief Mountain Observatory" in an open area. The view is different from the view from Maoi Literature Platform, so why not enjoy the view from here as if you were hiking? You will also be impressed by the fantastic evening view!

Maoi Bungakudai, where you can experience the great outdoors of Hokkaido, is a hidden gem known only to those in the know. Naganuma Town is about 30 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport and about 50 minutes from Sapporo, making it a perfect place for a short drive. Be sure to stop by and experience this scenery.
