Locale Jozankei is a soft serve ice cream shop that opened in Jozankei in 2017. The owner is an American photographer and filmmaker, and the manager is a former flight attendant. The two have traveled the world, so they know about unexpected ingredients from all over the world, which they combine with soft serve ice cream to create new flavors and photogenic impacts. Seeing is believing, so let's go and check it out!

Let's start with the signature dish! "Marugoto Ise Farm Blue Cheese & Soft Serve" (950 yen including tax). Chunks of blue cheese are placed on top of the soft serve ice cream. The unique flavor of blue cheese is preserved, and when eaten with the refreshingly sweet soft serve ice cream, it has a mellow taste. You can take home the cute jar with the lid.

Next up is "Salted Pistachio" (570 yen including tax). It is topped with pistachios that have been slowly roasted with natural salt from Okinawa (or Kyushu). The saltiness and texture of the pistachios accentuate the sweetness of the soft serve ice cream, and many people become addicted to it.

If you like alcohol, how about the "Yoichi Whisky & Espresso" (630 yen including tax). The highly aromatic Yoichi Whisky goes perfectly with the soft serve ice cream! The refined taste, richness and aroma of the whiskey are added to the soft serve ice cream, making it a dish for adults.

Fruitima, which changes monthly and lets you enjoy seasonal fruits, is also popular. At the time of our visit, the "Strawberry Fruitima" (630 yen including tax) was on sale. Strawberries are kneaded into the soft serve ice cream, giving it a cute pink appearance. You can really taste the fruit used in the dessert.

The "Double Shot Affogato" (650 yen including tax) is an authentic affogato where the bitterness of the espresso blends with the sweetness of the soft serve ice cream. By the way, Locale Jozankei also serves delicious organic coffee (400 yen including tax), which goes perfectly with the soft serve ice cream, so we recommend it.

Lastly, there is the "Ise Farm Vanilla Soft Serve" (cone, 530 yen including tax), which is the basis of all the soft serve ice creams. It is made from 100% grass-fed milk (milk from cows raised on pasture only) delivered directly from Ise Farm in Etanbetsu. Pasteurized at low temperature, this additive-free soft serve ice cream uses no stabilizers or emulsifiers, and has a rich flavor with a clean aftertaste.
