SPOT 1. welcome demon statue (in front of JR Noboribetsu station)

First of all, tourists are welcomed in front of JR Noboribetsu Station. During the Noboribetsu Hell Festival held every year on the last Saturday and Sunday of August in Noboribetsu Onsen Town, the statue appears as Gokko to enliven the festival.

SPOT 2 Welcoming demon statue (in front of Noboribetsu Higashi Interchange)

For those who visit by car on the Hokkaido Highway, a powerful welcoming demon statue, 18 meters high and weighing 18 tons, appears at the Noboribetsu-Higashi Interchange exit. The direction it points to is Noboribetsu Onsen Town!

SPOT 3 Symbol Oni (prayer for success)

Located on Gokuraku Street, the main street of Noboribetsu Onsen Town, this demon with its book spread out is said to bring good luck for success. How about "praying for success oni" before an examination or qualification test!

SPOT 4 Symbol Oni (Fulfillment of love)

シンボル鬼(恋愛成就)

The two ogres standing side by side are statues of love fulfillment. Their charming appearance will make you feel relaxed. If you want to make your wish for love come true, why not make a request?

SPOT 5 Symbol Oni (prosperous business)

シンボル鬼(商売繁盛)

The demon statue of a prosperous businessman is holding a gold stick with the words "Prosperous Business" written on it in his hand. It is not a "beckoning cat" but a "beckoning demon" that seems to bring good fortune.

SPOT 6 Yukake Onigura

湯かけ鬼蔵

Located next to the Noboribetsu Tourist Association on "Gokuraku Street" is the "Yukake Onigura. Pray for good health and healing from various illnesses by pouring the hot spring water flowing out from the side of the Onsen onto painful or bad parts of the body with a ladle.

SPOT 7 Welcome Father and Son Oni Statue

A 5-meter-high parent and child demon statue with a 2-meter-high child demon holding hands. It makes you feel as warm inside as if you were in a hot spring.

SPOT 8 Enma Hall

閻魔堂

The "King Enma Karakuri Float," built as a commemorative project for the 30th Noboribetsu Jigoku Matsuri (Noboribetsu Hell Festival), is located here, and visitors can see a karakuri performance six times a day. The float is paraded through the hot spring resort area during the Noboribetsu Jigoku Matsuri (Noboribetsu Hell Festival).

SPOT 9 Demon Shrine-Nembutsu Demon Statue

鬼祠-念仏鬼像

A popular spot for commemorative photos, the small shrine in the center of the 3.5-meter standing red devil and 2.2-meter seated blue devil is said to enshrine a "Nenbutsuki zo" (statue of a Buddha demon) that has been handed down since the Edo period.


While the popular Jigokudani (Hell Valley) and Sengen Park, where you can see geysers, are not to be missed in Noboribetsu Onsen Town, how about taking a leisurely stroll through the hot spring resort to look for the Yunokishin-sama (Goddess of Hot Spring Oni)?
