The Sapporo Lantern Night, first held in 2022, is back and better than ever! This time, we introduce the "Sapporo Lantern Fes 2023," an event that will transform the Sapporo night sky into a magical world with the light of lanterns.

A Fusion of Ethereal Lights and Music: Sapporo Lantern Fes 2023

The "Sapporo Lantern Fes 2023" is an event where participants release lanterns carrying their wishes and hopes into the Sapporo night sky all at once. The venue will feature kitchen cars, and there will also be new activities like drone soccer.

Lanterns are small hot air balloons often used in festivals in Thailand and Taiwan, but this event uses fire-free LED lanterns, making it safe for children to enjoy.

From Light to Food to a Glimpse of the Future!? Enjoy Five Worlds

The theme of this year's event is "A Bright and Energetic Sapporo." Let's introduce the charms of each of the "Five Worlds" set up at the venue!

1. The World of Food: Kitchen Cars (13:00-18:30)

Kitchen cars will be serving rice balls, sandwiches, hot dogs, and drinks. They open at 13:00, so even those just dropping by Nakajima Park can enjoy them.

2. The World of Sports: Experience Drone Soccer (Registration: 14:00-16:00)

Experience "Drone Soccer" for free, where ten glowing drones fly fiercely around a court, colliding as they aim for the goal. You're sure to experience a new kind of exciting thrill you can't find anywhere else. Registration is at the Nakajima Sports Center gymnasium from 14:00.

3. The World of Magic: Sun Catcher Crafting Workshop (Starts 13:45)

You can experience a workshop to create your own "sun catcher" that catches the sunlight. The workshop will be held three times, starting from 13:45, with each session lasting 45 minutes. Creating a sparkling sun catcher with your child could be a wonderful memory. Participation is free, with a capacity of 30 people per session.

4. The World of the Future: YOSAKOI Performances and a Talk Show with Shuta Uesugi

With the theme of Sapporo's bright future as seen from the past, there will be YOSAKOI dance performances and a talk show featuring celebrity Shuta Uesugi and city-walking researcher Satoshi Wada.

5. The World of Dreams: Lanterns in the Sky at the Event Finale

At the event's finale, you can enjoy a magical space of sound and light by releasing LED lanterns filled with dreams and hopes into the night sky.

How Can You Participate?

LED lanterns were sold in advance to the first 700 people for 2,000 yen each, but unfortunately, they are already sold out for this year. On the day of the event, registration for those who pre-purchased lanterns will start at 15:00. For those who couldn't buy one, don't worry—viewing is free. Why not enjoy the food, drone soccer, and the magical sight of lanterns rising into the Sapporo night sky?
