Many of you have probably visited "Poppo" in the Ito-Yokado food court at least once with family or friends. However, Poppo stores have been closing down across the country. In Hokkaido, the Ito-Yokado Obihiro store will close on June 30, 2024, and the Ito-Yokado Tonden store in Sapporo will close on July 28. This time, we'll introduce five must-try menu items at the incredibly affordable Poppo, perfect for enjoying with friends and family!

French Fries

First up is the item many people think of when they hear "Poppo": the "French Fries." Served overflowing in a paper container designed with the Poppo logo, a small serving is a bargain at just 180 yen (all prices listed include tax). The crispy texture and perfect saltiness are simply addictive. Other sizes are also a great deal, with a large serving at 350 yen and a mega serving at 520 yen. They're perfect for sharing with friends.

Shoyu Ramen

This is another hugely popular item at Poppo: the "Shoyu Ramen." The rich soy sauce-based soup and the firm, original thin noodles create a perfect balance, all for just 520 yen. It's unbelievably cheap! You can choose from four classic flavors—shoyu (soy sauce), miso, shio (salt), and tonkotsu (pork bone)—and there are also great toppings available, like a half-boiled egg or char siu for 50 yen, or four slices of char siu for 150 yen.

Kids' Ramen Set

The "Kids' Ramen Set" comes with a small bowl of ramen, a juice, and a jelly for dessert. Many people might have fond memories of their parents ordering this for them on a family trip to Poppo. The shoyu ramen is packed with corn, and this amazing set that kids will happily eat on their own is just 300 yen! In fact, while Poppo has slightly adjusted its prices due to recent increases in raw material costs, this set has remained the same price. It's a place where families worried about the cost of eating out can stop by without any worries.

Takoyaki

Poppo's takoyaki features a fragrant takoyaki sauce and the aroma of bonito flakes. The plump, juicy octopus inside makes for a truly satisfying bite. You can choose between two sizes: 8 pieces (550 yen) or 16 pieces (1,000 yen). This is another great option for sharing with friends and family.

Soft Serve Ice Cream - Hokkaido Milk

When you think of Poppo desserts, the classic "Soft Serve Ice Cream" (250 yen) comes to mind. As the name suggests, the Hokkaido Milk flavor is made with dairy products from Hokkaido, resulting in a rich, smooth cream. It's no wonder it has so many loyal fans, as you can enjoy authentic soft serve at a fast-food shop.

Taiwan Ramen

Currently, as part of the "Poppo Ramen Journey" series, they are offering "Taiwan Ramen" (630 yen), a local specialty from Aichi Prefecture. The special Taiwanese minced meat and the rich, deep, and sharp spicy soup will whet your appetite. There's also "Taiwan Mazesoba" (mixed noodles) (690 yen), so be sure to order whichever you prefer.

Poppo Gacha

The Poppo I visited this time is inside the Ito-Yokado Tonden store, which will close on July 28. As this beloved store of 24 years prepares to close, I found a gacha machine with a sign saying, "How about one for the memories?" that dispenses Poppo acrylic keychains. The prizes include the Poppo logo and menu items like ramen and fries. Be sure to get one of these slightly surreal and cute items as a memento.

The menu items introduced here are just a small part of what's available. There are many other popular items like Imagawayaki, floats, and okonomiyaki.
