Moru-chan the Seal "Was Going Wild with Hunger"
The star of the show: Moru-chan, a spotted seal.
This aquarium is the Muroran Minpo Minna no Aquarium (Muroran City Aquarium) in Muroran City, Hokkaido. The adorable star is Moru-chan, born in March 2019. In the world of seals, which can live for 30 to 40 years, she's still at a playful age. Her antics have drawn many comments, such as "Too cute!" "I have an uncontrollable urge to feed her," and "I just want to watch videos like this all day." According to Ms. Takayama, the staff member who posted the video:
"I was walking to check the water intake from the sea when I saw Moru-chan flapping around with incredible energy, so I quickly filmed it (laughs). It was around feeding time for the marine animals, so it seems she was going wild with hunger."
Staff member Ms. Takayama, also known as the "Fish Expert Sister," who provided the comment.
Apparently, Moru-chan does this "quite often," so you're lucky if you catch her during feeding time! Let's get our dose of cuteness from her energetic flapping.
Meet Satsuki-chan with Her Kerorin Bucket, a 2023 Social Media Star
The adorable Satsuki-chan holding her Kerorin bucket.
The nine seals at the aquarium are a professional troupe, each with their own special talent. From Satsuki-chan, who suddenly shot to fame last year for being "too cute holding a Kerorin bucket," to Hogo-chan, who loves to slide around the empty pool in the early morning before it's filled with water, Kaoru-san, who comes ashore to beat his belly like a drum, and the males who constantly tap on the acrylic tank walls, a group of very unique seals will greet you.
Satsuki-chan and her Kerorin bucket made national news.
Muroran Minpo Minna no Aquarium: Hokkaido's Oldest and Most Heartwarming Aquarium
Originally named Muroran City Aquarium, it gained naming rights in 2023 and became Muroran Minpo Minna no Aquarium.
The Muroran Minpo Minna no Aquarium, home to these lovable seals, is the oldest aquarium in Hokkaido, established in 1953. The building, which retains its original appearance, is still in use, and its traditional "train-window" style displays are now a rare sight.
The waddling walks of the Humboldt penguins are also a popular attraction.
The "Umai Level" (Tastiness Level) signs, where staff share their personal reviews after eating the fish, have become famous after being featured in the media.

"This goes incredibly well with rice. A feast."
In addition to fish, you can meet marine animals like seals, penguins, and Steller sea lions. The facility also has a mini amusement park with a miniature train, merry-go-round, and Ferris wheel, making it very popular with families with young children. Many visitors come from Hakodate and Sapporo.
The "Mini Amusement Park" is fun for the whole family.
Reopening for 2024 on Friday, April 26th!
The talented seals are also on their winter break.
You might want to rush over to see them, but the Muroran City Aquarium is currently closed for the winter. The reopening for the next season is scheduled for Friday, April 26, 2024, making it a highly recommended destination for your Golden Week outing! Let's go meet the adorable Moru-chan and her friends!
We're all waiting for you!
