The annual Urasando Summer Festival will be held on Sunday, July 13th, in Maruyama Urasando, a stone's throw from Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. This community-focused festival features food stalls from popular local shops and lively street performances. Here's a detailed look at what to expect.

Maruyama Urasando is an area along Minami 1-jo Dori, from Nishi 20-chome to 25-chome, near Maruyama Koen Station. The Maruyama area itself was chosen in the early Meiji era as a site to enshrine the deities of Hokkaido's development. Along with the Omotesando (front approach), the Urasando (rear approach) was created as a path to Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. Once a rural area, it gradually began to sell processed foods and daily necessities, developing into a shopping district. With the opening of the Tozai Subway Line in 1976, unique shops opened one after another, attracting a fashion-conscious young crowd and establishing it as a trendy spot.

The Urasando Summer Festival is a community-based event where popular local shops set up a wide array of stalls and street performances fill the air. This year, it will be held on Sunday, July 13th. The area of Minami 1-jo Dori from Nishi 20-chome to 25-chome will become a pedestrian paradise from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
