・Takao Esaki / Enduring the wind and snow

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Sapporo Soft Stone / Sapporo City Museum, January 2024

■Comment from the artist The museum, with its dignified appearance having withstood the elements for many years, is my favorite building.

・Tetsuhiro Sakaguchi / Fast Run

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Horse culture in Hokkaido / Otofuke Town, January 2021

■Comment from the artist The "Horse Chase" has become a seasonal winter event, and the sight of large horses galloping along, kicking up clouds of snow, is truly impressive.

・Hiroaki Uesugi / Overlooking the Dome

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome / Wakkanai Park, May 2023

■Comment from the artist This is the breakwater dome seen from Wakkanai Park. The deer walking in the gentle spring sunshine were impressive.

・Uemura Shuji / Ishikari River shining in the spring afternoon sun

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Ishikari River / Hamamachi, Ishikari City, April 2020

■Comment from the artist Ishikari River originates on the western slope of Mt. Ishikari in the Daisetsu Mountain Range, and has traveled 268km, passing through 22 cities, towns and villages. There are only about 2km left of its long journey. Bathed in the still chilly spring afternoon sun, I enjoyed the leisurely flow of the river as it reached the end of its journey.

・Shinobu Maekawa / Pure and Consistent

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Kyogoku's Fukidashi Spring Water / Kyogoku Town August 2024

■Comment from the artist The haze of the water vapor was a fantastic sight.

・Mizue Tsuyama / Even if it decays, it still remains

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Former JNR Shihoro Line concrete arch bridges / Nukabira Onsenkyo, Kamishihoro Town, October 2023

■Comment from the artist Taushubetsu Bridge spans Lake Nukabira. After opening in 1939, it was submerged under the lake due to the construction of a dam, but it is also known as the "phantom bridge" because it appears and disappears depending on the water level. Even now, more than 80 years later, its dilapidated appearance still moves us. It is a treasure that we hope will remain forever.

・Yuki Watanabe / Morning in the Marsh

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Uryu Swamp / Uryu Swamp, June 2023

■Comment from the artist A view of the boardwalk as I walked, feeling the morning dew on the marsh grass under my feet.

・Toru Hino / The Garden in the City

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Sapporo Soft Stone / Sapporo City, June 2024

■Comment from the artist I captured the Sapporo Museum's stately Sapporo soft stone building and the roses in the Sunk Garden in the adjacent Odori Park. The Sunk Garden is located in the center of Sapporo, a city of 2 million people, and is a rare and beautiful garden, even in Japan. It is always well-maintained, and you can see the efforts of the gardeners behind the scenes. It is a flower garden that exists thanks to the unsung heroes. This scenery is a splendid harmony between the roses and the stately atmosphere of the museum. Who could ask for more?

・Kamazawa Matsumi / Evening view of Notsuke Peninsula

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Notsuke Peninsula and Utase Boats / Notsuke Peninsula, July 2024

■Comment from the artist The first time I visited Notsuke Peninsula in the summer, the clusters of Ezo Day Lilies were in full bloom. While I was taking pictures of the Ezo Day Lilies lit by the setting sun, I suddenly heard a rustling sound. A Ezo deer suddenly appeared and started eating the flowers. I was able to take pictures of a beautiful evening scene while watching people admiring the flowers and animals eating them.

・Noriyuki Hatabata / Surviving the giant ice block

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Former JNR Shihoro Line Concrete Arch Bridges / Lake Nukabira Taushubetsu River Bridge, February 2020

■Comment from the artist Depending on the season, the phantom bridge rises and falls over Lake Nukabira, lifting up huge blocks of ice, creating an impressive sight.

・hokkaido_photonao / Dynamic

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Lake Mashu / Lake Mashu No. 3 Observatory, June 2024

■Comment from the artist The sight of the mist flowing into Lake Mashu like a waterfall and moving like a living thing in the morning sun was truly spectacular.

・michi312ant / The path of light leading to the ocean

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Shakotan Peninsula and Cape Kamui / Yoichi Town, Ebisu Rock and Daikoku Rock, September 2024

■Comment from the artist I went down to the beach and took a closer look. The sunlight hitting the surface of the sea was dazzling and divine. The sunrise seen from this spot was very impressive. It was a beautiful sight, starting from the blue hour sky before dawn until the sun rose. I would like to visit again in a different season.

・nogu_1022 / Drift ice town

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Drift ice and the Garinko / Monbetsu City, February 2024

■Comment from the artist Garinko-go 2. 3 is a new ship, but I actually like 2 better because the shape and body color are so nice ❤️

・now_forest / The sun rises, now and in the past

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Kaminokuni Medieval House / Kaminokuni Town Iozan Shrine August 2024

■Comment from the artist I photographed the moment when the rising sun and the torii gate overlapped on a midsummer morning. It's a magnificent view that I would like to pass on to future generations.

・chi_cchia / Ryuunkaku in Spring

Hokkaido Heritage Photo & Tanka Challenge 2024

■ Subject / Location and time of shooting Cherry blossom trees along Shizunai Nijukken Road / Shinhidaka Town, May 2022

■Comment from the artist Ryuunkaku was built as a guest house for the Imperial Ranch at the back of the cherry blossom-lined Nijukken Road in the town where I was born and raised. It is a spot that you should see from a little distance with the cherry blossoms, as shown in this photo, at the end of the 7km cherry blossom-lined road.
