This photo, which looks like the northernmost tip of the wooden Hokkaido, Wakkanai, is stabbing someone in the stomach, garnered over 60,000 likes on X. Users commented, "Whoa, that's terrifying," "Was Hokkaido a weapon...?" and "That's a combat-ready Cape Soya." Others were curious, asking, "What happens next?!" and "Please tell me what that Hokkaido is used for." So, what exactly is this wooden Hokkaido?

The truth: It's a wood carving by Kibori no Konno! A world of new-sensation art, crafted with exquisite detail.

The poster is actually the wood carving artist "Kibori no Konno," who is a hot topic on social media and TV. The wooden Hokkaido in the image was part of the process of creating a wood carving art piece currently on display at the "Kibori no Konno Exhibition" in Sapporo. The venue is filled with Konno's precise wood carvings, including an elaborate wooden replica of "Gokataya Yokan," a well-known popular souvenir from Hokkaido. You can see the actual piece at the exhibition.

I made a round-canned yokan out of wood.

The slightly translucent yokan, the incredibly detailed patterns and text on the packaging, and the thin string extending from the yokan were all recreated by hand.

This piece was created with the sponsorship of Gokataya Honpo for the "Kibori no Konno Exhibition Sapporo."

In addition, there is a lineup of astonishing wood carvings, such as food that looks just like the real thing and a raw egg that appears transparent! Even *that* famous snack familiar to Hokkaido residents has been recreated.

The wooden "Osuimono" (clear soup), unveiled for the first time in Sapporo. It's amazing to think that no transparent liquid or resin was used.

Speaking of Hokkaido! A number of famous snacks are also perfectly recreated.

A quiz corner where both kids and adults can get serious

Furthermore, the "Kibori no Konno Exhibition" features a "Which one is wood?" quiz corner, where you have to identify the incredibly realistic wood carving mixed in with the real thing.

The Domingo editorial team took on the challenge and found it quite difficult, getting 16 out of 24 correct! The carvings are so realistic that it's hard to tell them apart even when you stare intently... Be sure to try this quiz that will have everyone from children to adults completely absorbed.
