A Train Powers Through a Calm Winter Day: Scenes from Engaru and More [Hokkaido Mirai Note (44)]
This time, we're sharing three wonderful photos of Hokkaido, all taken and submitted by our readers!
A Train Running Through the Snow in Engaru Town
I took this photo at Yasukuni Station in Engaru Town.
The train running through the beautiful snowy landscape gave me a classic Hokkaido feel.
This is a scene I want to preserve for the future.

The beautiful contrast between the crisp air of a calm, clear winter day and the powerful train makes this a shot that you want to take a deep breath for!
Yasukuni Station, where this photo was taken, is a log cabin-style station building made from local larch wood. I'd love to visit by train to see both the stunning scenery and the station itself.
Autumn Leaves in Shimukappu Village
A famous spot for rock climbing. Just as its name suggests, it's a very colorful place.
It took a bit of rock climbing to get down to the river. lol

The vivid autumn colors of the trees, combined with the blue of the Mukawa River and the red of the rocks, create a magnificent harmony. This photo truly captures the richness of nature!
This gorge, with its beautiful giant red rocks (chert), is called Akaiwa Seigan Gorge. Right next to it is a mecca for rock climbers from all over the country. I'd love to see these massive rocks, sculpted by nature, with my own eyes.
Illumination Tunnel in Toyako Town
This is the Toyako Onsen illumination tunnel, something I look forward to every year.
It's a tough time with COVID-19, but why not avoid the crowds and enjoy a moment of peace with the sparkling tunnel and the Lake Toya fireworks?

The sparkling, colorful lights are so beautiful—a shot so beautiful you could gaze at it for hours!
The Toyako Onsen illumination tunnel is a 70-meter-long tunnel of light decorated with 400,000 bulbs that usually appears from November 1st. I'd love to stay overnight and enjoy this magical winter scene.
