Savor the Soul-Warming, Niboshi-Infused Soup! Authentic "Eifukucho-Style Chuka Soba" at Taishoken in Nanae
Located in Nanae, the town next to Hakodate, the famous ramen shop "Taishoken" is a branch of the renowned Tokyo establishment, "Eifukucho Taishoken." It's a beloved local spot and a rare gem in Southern Hokkaido where you can taste a bowl of ramen steeped in authentic history.
An Irresistibly Smooth Texture! Recommended Menu: "Wonton-men"
"Wonton-men (1 portion of noodles)" 900 yen
While the classic choice is the hearty "Chuka-men (2 portions of noodles)," we highly recommend the "Wonton-men." It's packed with so many smooth, slippery wontons, you'll wonder if the bowl is bottomless! You can choose to have one portion of noodles, which is great for adjusting to your appetite.
The wontons in the piping hot soup are divine!
Piping Hot Soup with a Rich Niboshi Flavor and a Seasonal Secret Ingredient
The signature of Taishoken's ramen is its piping hot soup. It stays warm until the very last sip, ensuring a delicious experience. The broth has a distinct niboshi (dried sardine) flavor, and during the colder months when the chicken flavor is richer, a hint of yuzu peel is added as a secret ingredient.
The noodles are medium-thick with a gentle wave
The noodles have a gentle wave, making them pleasant to slurp and providing a great texture. They are a perfect match for the soup.
The Pro Move: Order a "Raw Egg on the Side"
Instead of getting the raw egg directly in your bowl, the pro move is to order it "on the side." Dip the soup-soaked noodles into the raw egg before eating. This mellows the strong niboshi flavor, creating a completely different and enjoyable taste. The generous amount of menma (bamboo shoots) also adds a nice textural accent.
Easy Access: Right Outside JR Nanae Station, with Parking Available
Parking is available for 2 cars in front of the shop and 4 cars to the left.
The shop is located right in front of the ticket gate at JR Nanae Station. Taishoken is where you can savor authentic "Eifukucho-style" chuka soba, a dish that even ramen connoisseurs in Southern Hokkaido rave about. Although its limited business days and hours make it a bit of a challenge to visit, the ramen is absolutely worth the effort!
