The highly anticipated "Shogi Japan Series JT Pro Official Tournament" for shogi fans will see 12 top players compete in an open match for the "JT Cup" title. This year's Hokkaido tournament will be held on Saturday, July 26th, with a match between 9th dan players Akito Hirose and Masayuki Toyoshima. Furthermore, on the eve of the match, on Friday, July 25th, a "Shogi Japan Series Hokkaido Tournament Commemorative Player Talk Event Supported by Domingo" will be held. The talk event was posted on the official Shogi Japan Series YouTube channel.

Highly anticipated match between 9th dan Hirose and 9th dan Toyoshima to be held in Sapporo

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the "Shogi Japan Series JT Pro Official Tournament Hokkaido Tournament" will be held at the Sapporo Convention Center. This tournament, featuring 12 top players competing in open matches, will see a fierce battle of wits between local Hokkaido player Akito Hirose and the highly skilled 9th dan player Masayuki Toyoshima in the third game of the first round. All eyes will be on the heated battle of wits unfolding on the board.

The commemorative talk event will be released on YouTube at a later date.

To commemorate the Hokkaido Tournament, a "Shogi Japan Series Hokkaido Tournament Commemorative Player Talk Event Supported by Domingo" was held on the night before the match. Domingo will also be supporting the Hokkaido Tournament! Following last year, this year's event will be posted on YouTube after the event! It was a rare opportunity to see the players in their everyday lives, different from when they are playing.

Furthermore, on Saturday, July 26th, the Sapporo Convention Center Large Hall will host the Table Mark Children's Tournament along with the Shogi Japan Series JT Pro Official Tournament. The Table Mark Children's Tournament is the largest children's shogi tournament in Japan, designed to teach children the joy of shogi. On the day, there will be a variety of events, including skill tests, enjoyable games, piece grabbing challenges, piece arranging challenges, shogi puzzle quizzes, shogi school, and instructional games. Participants in the Children's Tournament will also be able to watch the JT Pro Official Tournament that follows.
