This magical Supermoon was photographed by the Asahikawa Astronomical Club. The shot was taken around 6:00 PM, at the very moment the clouds finally parted. Comments poured in on social media, with people marveling at its beauty, saying things like, "I'm so happy to see this since it was cloudy where I am," "Truly mystical," and "What a perfectly round moon."
A Supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the Moon's closest approach to Earth in its orbit, making it appear larger and brighter than a typical full moon. According to the Asahikawa Astronomical Club, the next full moon will be on December 5, 2025, and it will "once again approach within the 350,000 km range, offering a view of a large, brilliant moon."

The Asahikawa Astronomical Club also successfully photographed a total lunar eclipse in the early hours of September 8, capturing its "blood-red" appearance. The next total lunar eclipse visible across Japan will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with the total eclipse phase beginning after 8:00 PM. "If the weather is good, it will be a mystical moon that is clearly visible even to the naked eye," says the club.
