"It looks delicious!" The seal beloved in Monbetsu is a hot topic as it looks just like that food!

A seal living at the Okhotsk Tokkari Center Seal Land, a seal conservation facility in Monbetsu, Hokkaido, has become a hot topic for its resemblance to a certain food. What on earth does it resemble?

I thought it looked similar, but the answer finally came to me on the flight home.

Its plump, round shape and protruding hind legs...it looks just like a corn dog! On social media, people commented, "It looks like a corn dog is swimming," "It even recreates the crunchy part on the stick!" and "It's so cute and round," and the post received a huge response of over 56,000 likes.

Azala Kao talks about the appeal of the Tokkari Center

The post was made by Kao, nicknamed "Sealer," who loves seals. The adorable American dog in the photo is Tsuki-chan, who was born at the Tokkari Center in March of this year.

Kao says the appeal of the Tokkari Center is the intimacy that only an outdoor facility can provide. You can observe the seals up close, listening to their cries, the sounds of splashing water, their smells, and even their fur, which changes every day. Another big attraction is being able to learn more about the seals' personalities and lifestyles through the detailed explanations given by the zookeepers during feeding times and through husbandry training*.

Pay attention to the dialogue between the seals and the zookeepers

The seals living at Tokkari Center are full of expressive faces. While they have adorable behaviors and playful moments that will make you smile, they also sometimes show a stubborn side that can cause trouble for the keepers.

"I feel that the interactions between the seals and the keepers are a warmth that can only be found at this place," says Kao. If you happen to be in Monbetsu City, why not experience this warm everyday life at the Tokkari Center?
