Struggling with Tokachi Souvenirs? Okamedo's Irresistible Bean Products Are Your Answer!
The spacious store, attached to the factory, is packed with an incredible variety of bean products!
You'll be spoiled for choice, but rest assured, whatever you pick is guaranteed to be of the highest quality. Why not take a peek inside?
When you visit Okamedo in Honbetsu Town, the first thing that might surprise you is the vastness of its grounds. With several buildings on the site, you might be a little confused about which one is the shop.
Once inside the store, get ready for another surprise! The shelves are lined with so many products it's hard to know where to look, and every single one of them is made from beans, beans, and more beans. As you browse through the items one by one, you'll realize, "Wow, I never knew there were so many kinds of beans!"

While the yokan (sweet bean jelly) and teas made from various beans are tempting, our top recommendation has to be the "amanatto" (sweetened beans). Made with high-quality beans from Honbetsu, their refined sweetness is so delicious you might find it hard to stop eating them. We also recommend the simple roasted beans. They are a perfect snack to go with tea or a cold beer.
Okamedo was originally founded in Kobe during the Edo period. In 1988, the company built a factory in Honbetsu Town, with which it had a connection through sourcing raw materials. This move prompted Okamedo's other factories to relocate to Honbetsu one after another, and by the beginning of the Heisei era, all its factories were consolidated here. Today, Mameya Tokachi has taken over the business, continuing to produce high-quality bean products. Incidentally, the site also features a building called the "Mame Dome" (Bean Dome), where you'll be greeted by a collection of over 150 "Okame" masks.
With its unique Okame collection and a great selection of souvenirs to buy, Okamedo has become a bit of a tourist spot in its own right. Needless to say, beans have long been an essential and healthy part of Japanese food culture. A visit to Okamedo might just get you hooked on the charm of beans all over again.
