Harmony of Nature and Coal Mine Heritage: Ashibetsu Railway and More [Hokkaido Mirai Note (53)]
From the wonderful photos of Hokkaido taken and submitted by all of you, we're introducing three carefully selected posts again this time!
Ashibetsu Railway (Ashibetsu City)
An acquaintance told me, “There's a place like this in Ashibetsu!”♪
For me, it's a wonderful place I was able to discover thanks to my connection with people.
I want to enjoy the charming scenery as it changes through spring, summer, autumn, and winter♪

A shot that lets you feel technology, history, and grand nature all at once, with the red of the railway tracks blending into the blue sky and pure white snow!
This red bridge is the “Former Mitsui Ashibetsu Railway Tanzangawa Bridge,” which was active as a dedicated coal transport line from 1945 to 1989.
I'd love to see the diesel locomotive and coal freight car, preserved and displayed on the bridge as part of its coal mine heritage, harmonizing with nature!
A Hut and Mount Yotei (Kutchan Town)
In mid-March, the asphalt underfoot was dry, but the fields still had snow as tall as me, sprinkled with snow-melting agents. And beyond that, Mount Yotei! I realized that from here, Mount Yotei has a beautiful symmetry, and I just stared at it for a while.

A magical shot of Mount Yotei illuminated by light breaking through the clouds!
Mount Yotei is a beautiful, solitary peak, so much so that it's also called “Ezo Fuji.”
Its shape changes slightly depending on the direction you view it from, so it would be fun to find your favorite angle while enjoying a drive.
Ezo Squirrel (Ashibetsu City)
I found myself thinking that maybe it's always watching over the town like this, and it felt like I saw a different side of the Ezo squirrel, which was heartwarming.

A very soothing shot of an Ezo squirrel watching over the vast town and nature from a treetop!
Many Hokkaido residents have probably seen an Ezo squirrel at least once.
They don't hibernate, and they grow a winter coat to protect themselves from the cold, making their long ears look especially adorable!
