The photo shows a group of Ezo raccoon dogs (tanuki) huddled tightly together on top of a wooden box. Their appearance, reminiscent of the Japanese children's game "Oshikura Manju," has drawn comments like, "So cute," "I want to get in there with them," and "The tanuki dumpling is so healing."
Asahikawa City Asahiyama Zoo: Famous for "Behavioral Exhibits" in a Natural Setting
The person who posted these photos is momo1, a frequent visitor to facilities with penguins in Hokkaido. As a regular at Asahiyama Zoo, visiting almost every month, momo1 describes the zoo's appeal as its "behavioral exhibits, which feature spacious enclosures that allow visitors to see the animals' natural behaviors and lifestyles."
Furthermore, the lush natural environment is another one of Asahiyama Zoo's charms. Wild birds often visit the trees within the zoo, and there's even an "Ikimono Mokugeki Map" (Wildlife Sighting Map) dedicated to them.
Animals Thriving in a Vibrant Environment
Momo1's personal favorite is a Gentoo penguin chick, number "48," born in July 2025. Besides the Ezo raccoon dogs and penguins, the zoo is full of other adorable and impressive animals! When you visit Asahikawa City, be sure to enjoy an encounter with these lively creatures.
