The night view is also romantic and recommended! "Arashiyama Observatory" offers a panoramic view of Asahikawa city
The Arashiyama Observatory is located in Arashiyama Park, which was developed and opened as a recreational area for the public in 1965. A reinforced concrete observation deck was built in 1966, and was replaced with the current observation deck in 2004.
The view from the observation deck is exceptional, and you can get a panoramic view of Asahikawa city. If you look to the southeast, you can see the meandering Ishikari River, and if you look to the northeast, you can see the rural landscape below. At night, you can enjoy both the city night view and the starry sky, creating a truly luxurious and romantic atmosphere.
It's about 500m from the parking lot to the observation deck, and there is a walkway so anyone can easily visit. However, if you're visiting for the night view, you'll need to bring a flashlight or something similar, as there are no street lights. Also, please note that snow removal is not done during the winter.
By the way, "Arashiyama" is a famous place name in Kyoto, but why did this area around Asahikawa City come to be called "Arashiyama"? The origin dates back to the Meiji period. The general theory is that the view of the Ishikari River and Mount Daisetsu, as seen from the top, resembles the view of the Kamo River and Mount Hiei, as seen from the top of Arashiyama in Kyoto.
By the way, "Arashiyama and the view from Arashiyama" has been selected as one of the Eight Views of Asahikawa. Arashiyama Park and the Arashiyama Observatory are often used for field trips for nearby kindergartens and elementary schools. Why not share a little of this view that has been familiar to locals for a long time with us when you visit as a tourist?
