A Picture-Perfect Miracle! Hokkaido's Breathtaking Scenery of Canola Fields, a Train, and a Ferris Wheel

May is when the canola flowers, or "nanohana," come into full bloom in Hokkaido. We'd like to share a magical photo taken in Iwamizawa City that captures a canola field, a train, and a Ferris wheel all in one frame. Imagine a train on the Muroran Main Line running past a vast yellow carpet of canola flowers, with a giant Ferris wheel in the background. Enjoy this stunning early summer view unique to Hokkaido.

The photo captures a vibrant canola field stretching as far as the eye can see. Beyond it runs a train on the Muroran Main Line. And in the background, the silhouette of a large Ferris wheel is also visible. This rare combination of canola flowers, a train, and a Ferris wheel in a single shot has captivated many with its dreamlike quality.

The photo was taken in Iwamizawa City. That Ferris wheel is from a famous spot!

According to Konsa, the photographer, the location is Iwamizawa City, Hokkaido. The Ferris wheel in the distance is the giant one at Hokkaido Greenland (formerly Mitsui Greenland). Regarding this scene, Konsa shared, "There are several great spots to see canola flowers in Hokkaido, but here in Iwamizawa, the collaboration with the giant Ferris wheel is magical. The local train gliding over the yellow carpet also adds a charming touch."

In Hokkaido, canola flowers typically reach their peak viewing season around mid-May. The Sorachi area, in particular, is known for its vast canola fields. Popular spots where you can enjoy scenery on a grand scale, typical of Hokkaido, are scattered throughout cities like Takikawa, Abira, and Iwamizawa.

Early summer in Hokkaido is wrapped in a brilliant yellow. If you time it right, you might just encounter a "one-of-a-kind view" like this one, where you can enjoy the flowers together with a train and a Ferris wheel.
