Discover a Mars-Like Landscape at Mount Esan (Hakodate) & More! [Hokkaido Mirai Note (58)]

“Hokkaido Mirai Note” is a project that collects photos of Hokkaido's scenery to be preserved for the future.
This time, we're introducing three carefully selected photos from the wonderful Hokkaido scenes captured and submitted by you!

Mount Esan (Hakodate City)

This is Mount Esan, located at the southeastern tip of the Oshima Peninsula, with an elevation of about 600 meters.
As it's an active volcano, there are few trees, allowing you to enjoy a landscape that feels as if you've landed on Mars.
It's also designated as a Prefectural Natural Park, so it's highly recommended.

This is a magnificent shot that captures the power and grandeur of the earth!
Mount Esan is an active volcano with an elevation of 618 meters, located at the southeastern tip of the Oshima Peninsula. Its rugged mountainside, unlike anything you'd normally see, is truly impressive.
From the crater plain parking lot, you can reach the summit in about an hour. We'd love to climb it someday!

Potato Sorting (Taiki Town)

This is a scene of potato sorting in our warehouse in early spring. It's a view that marks the beginning of a farmer's year.

An impressive shot featuring the hands of a farmer sorting potatoes for planting!
It's amazing how farmers can instantly spot and sort the seed potatoes by size and check for rot as they come down the line...! We're curious if the size and shape of the seed potatoes affect the potato harvest.

Higashi-Oiwake Signal Box (Abira Town)

This is the Higashi-Oiwake Signal Box in Abira Town.
It's a place I want to visit when spring comes.
The unpaved road running through the fields has a soothing charm, doesn't it? ♪

This shot captures a crossing where a road and a railway line intersect in the middle of the fields!
The green of the cornfields, the brown of the soil, the blue of the sky, and the yellow and black of the crossing all harmonize to create a wonderful scene.
In Hokkaido, the scenery can change completely depending on the year's crops or as they grow in summer. It makes you want to go for a drive and take pictures!
