Adorable Yet Mighty: Mandarin Duck Chicks in Sapporo & More [Hokkaido Future Note (62)]
From the wonderful photos of Hokkaido taken and submitted by all of you, we will introduce three carefully selected posts again this time!
Mandarin Duck Chicks (Sapporo City)
Mandarin ducks show us their cute chicks every year in downtown Sapporo!
Is it instinct? They seem to be imitating their parents. It's the same in any world, isn't it?
The parents must be role models and watch over these little lives...

Although they are small and adorable chicks, this is a very soothing photo that shows them in a powerful pose as if they are about to fly away 🐥
Mandarin duck chicks are fluffy and round, but as they grow, the males undergo a dramatic transformation into a very flashy appearance in the fall for courtship!
In the coming season, it might be fun to look for mandarin ducks in their splendid new look.
Freshly Boiled Corn (Shosanbetsu Village)
Hokkaido's toukibi (corn) is in season now.

The word "toukibi" in the poster's comment also gives a sense of Hokkaido 🌽
Corn is called by various names in different parts of Japan, but even within Hokkaido, it seems to be called differently depending on the region, such as "toukibi," "toukimi," "kibi," or "kimi."
In Hokkaido, the season is said to last until around September, so be sure to taste it when it's in season!
Heart-Shaped Rock Cave (Otaru City)
The Hakuryu Tainai Meguri course on Mt. Shimo-Akaiwa in Otaru.
It's a very athletic mountain, but you can enjoy various rock caves and the Otaru Blue sea.
It's a steep and scary climb, making it hard to find, but this heart-shaped rock cave is one of my favorite spots.

A cute photo created by nature ♡
The climb up Mt. Shimo-Akaiwa is said to be a complex path, as its name "Hakuryu Tainai Meguri" (Pilgrimage through the White Dragon's Womb) suggests, like advancing through the body of a dragon.
But an incredible view awaits at the top ⛰ I want to see it!
