Tokachi Scenic Byway Tokachi Plain and Foothills Route

1〈Excellent road〉 Matsumi Ohashi Bridge

Mikuni Pass on Route 273 is the highest pass in Hokkaido, and offers a spectacular view of the mountains in the distance and the Sea of Trees below. The Matsumi Bridge is a beautiful bridge that appears as if it is floating in the sky in this great sea of trees. On a clear autumn day in Tokachi, why not take a drive through the colorful virgin forest from the refreshing rows of white birch trees in Tokachi Mimata to the observatory where Mikuni Pass Café is located?

2〈Scenic Cafe〉YORKSHIRE FARM

At Yorkshire Farm, about 200 sheep graze on a 10-hectare sheep farm, and from July, beautiful vines start blooming in the English-style Western-style building where you can stay overnight, and enjoy a meal while looking at the sheep and the garden from the terrace seats. Recommended dishes are those using home-grown lamb and local ingredients from the town of Shintoku. The menu is full of delicious items such as venison, locally produced cheese, and specialty log shiitake mushrooms.

3Lake Shikaribetsu

Located at an elevation of 810 m, it is the highest point in Hokkaido and the only natural lake in Daisetsuzan National Park. Surrounded by virgin forest, the lake is home to valuable wildlife such as the "naki-rabbit," which is said to have inhabited the area since the Ice Age. In summer, it is a popular spot for a wide variety of activities such as Canadian canoeing and air trips. There are also lodging facilities next door, so please come and stay overnight!

4Bizuru Panorama Park

Biburu Panorama Park is an impressive observatory with the vast agricultural landscape of Tokachi against the backdrop of the Hidaka Mountains. As a viewpoint parking lot, it is used by travelers and business visitors as a place to "take a breather". The sunset from here is so beautiful that one can lose track of time. The view of the Hidaka Mountains in each of the four seasons is also a key point of interest.

5〈Scenic Cafe〉 Mikuni Touge café

Mikuni Pass connects Kamishihoro Town, Nukabira Fountainhead and Kamikawa area in Tokachi. This log cabin scenic café offers a magnificent view of the pass. The owner's hand-drip coffee using home-roasted beans and cute latte art are popular, and the hearty curry and rice is also recommended. The café also sells goods made by Tokachi-born artists, making it a place where you can enjoy a relaxing time!
