Morimoto: 5 Must-Try Sweets from Chitose's Beloved Confectionery!
Even if you've never visited the store, you might have seen their products at regional food fairs outside of Hokkaido. Morimoto is a familiar name in Hokkaido, offering everything from Western-style pastries and traditional Japanese sweets to bread.
The Chitose Main Store, renovated in December 2019, welcomes you with the warmth of wood, making you feel like you're strolling through a forest. The spacious interior allows for a relaxed and enjoyable shopping experience.
But with so many delicious options, it's hard to choose just one. So, we asked the staff for their top recommendations. First up is this!
When you think of Morimoto, you can't miss their signature product, the "Kita no Chiisana Cake Haskap Jewelry." This treat features jam made from sweet and tart Hokkaido-grown haskap berries and buttercream, sandwiched between two cookies and coated in chocolate. It's a truly elegant sweet, just like a piece of jewelry.
Next, from their Japanese sweets selection, we recommend the "Shifuku no Ichigo Daifuku Yume," available exclusively at the Chitose Main Store. This unique, bite-sized strawberry daifuku is made with Hokkaido strawberries, offering an addictively delicious balance of moderate tartness and juiciness. Its cute, strawberry-like appearance is sure to bring a smile to your face.
Did you know that Morimoto is also a specialty cake shop, and their cakes are delicious? Among them, the "Morimoto Mont Blanc," exclusive to the Chitose Main Store, is the quintessential Mont Blanc that many Japanese people know and love! The harmony of the yellow marron paste and cream is sure to make you smile.
Also from the cake corner, how about the "Nanamaru Choux," another Chitose Main Store exclusive? This crunchy cream puff is packed full of luscious custard cream! It's a flavor loved by everyone, from children to adults, and makes a perfect gift.
Now, let's introduce a limited-edition item for which a Japanese confectioner prepares the bean paste fresh every morning. It's the handmade-in-store "Chitose Main Store's Handmade Dorayaki." Just look at its plump shape—you can tell how generously it's filled with bean paste.
Freshly made ones are put out as soon as they sell out, so if you time your visit right, you might get a warm dorayaki! (*Available until sold out)
In fact, some customers visit Morimoto just for their dorayaki. Even if you can't make it to the main store, other branches always have several types of dorayaki available, so be sure to try and compare them. It's fun to notice the differences in the beans used.
And there are still so many more products at Morimoto that we couldn't introduce today. Whether you're treating yourself or buying a gift for someone special, their sweets are sure to brighten up any occasion in your daily life.
*We got to see how dorayaki is made at the Morimoto Chitose Main Store! Check it out!
