From the gateway of the sky, a city of water where Lake Shikotsu's blue and salmon flow.

Population:97,400
Chitose City is home to New Chitose Airport, the gateway to Hokkaido's skies. Located in south-central Hokkaido, it has a population of approximately 98,000. The city stretches long from east to west, with vast farmlands in the east and the stunningly clear Lake Shikotsu, part of a national park and boasting some of the best water transparency in Japan, in the west. The Chitose River, flowing from this mystical lake, enriches the urban area.
The city has a continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are relatively pleasant, while winters are blanketed in beautiful snow. A key feature is the harmony between its rich natural environment and urban functions, supported by the airport and industrial parks. It is also a city that coexists with the Japan Self-Defense Forces, with both Ground and Air Self-Defense Force bases deeply integrated into civic life.
While industry thrives on its excellent transportation access, agriculture also flourishes. For tourism, canoeing and hot springs at Lake Shikotsu are popular, and in the city center, the "Sapporo Salmon Museum" is famous for allowing up-close observation of the salmon run. As both a gateway to the sky and an entrance to magnificent nature, Chitose welcomes many visitors.
