Chitose Aquarium, Home of the Salmon
The Chitose Aquarium, Home of the Salmon, is one of the largest freshwater aquariums in Japan. Inside the aquarium, visitors can observe the ecology of salmon and various freshwater fish from the northern region.
In addition, a salmon movie that introduces the life of a salmon is shown, and there is an underwater observation room, the first facility in Japan that allows visitors to directly see the Chitose River underwater, where they can observe the creatures of the Chitose River from season to season. Among them, a school of salmon on their way to spawn is a must-see. In addition to events such as the release of salmon fry, many special exhibitions are held here.
