Shimamaki Village, facing the Sea of Japan, is a place surrounded by sea and mountains, rich in nature. Of course, there are also wonderful hot springs. This time, we will introduce "Senbashirigawa Onsen". As soon as you enter the bath, you will be surprised!
The name is written as Chihashirigawa and pronounced "Chihasegawa". Chihashirigawa Onsen was discovered in 1871. The Chihashirigawa Onsen Ryokan that we visited this time is a long-established hot spring facility that was founded in 1885.
The moment you step from the dressing room into the bathroom, you'll be surprised by the pattern that covers the entire floor. The unique two-dimensional shape is created by the hot spring ingredients.
I was also surprised by the deep color of the water! Combined with the pattern on the floor, this heightens the hot spring feeling. The spring quality of Senhashirigawa Onsen is sodium bicarbonate chloride hot spring (hypotonic neutral hot spring).
It was once classified as a "baking soda spring" and is said to be good for skin diseases, burns, and cuts as it softens the surface of the skin.
The spring temperature is 37.1℃, which is a little warm. Therefore, it is heated just a little, but it does not seem to affect the hot spring ingredients. In addition, although it is not listed in the spring quality, it contains a small amount of iron, and you can feel a slight iron scent when you soak in the water.
In addition to the indoor bath, Senhashirigawa Onsen Ryokan also has an open-air bath; however, since it has no roof, it is closed during the autumn when there is a lot of falling leaves and when there is a lot of snow.
The hot springs at Senhashirigawa Onsen are visually impressive, but surprisingly they are smooth to the touch. If you stop by on your way back from visiting Garo Falls (※) or hiking at Mount Kariba, you will surely be able to soothe your tired body after sightseeing. Of course, you can also stay the night at Senhashirigawa Onsen Ryokan.
If you visit Shimamaki Village, why not stop by?
*As of the end of November 2021, the walking trail leading to the waterfall is closed (due to the risk of collapse).
