On Guide Day days (except August), a Canadian geoguide will provide explanations in English about the former Bembetsu Coal Mine and the Open-Air Museum. English speakers and Japanese are also welcome to join.

The Old Bembetsu Coal Mine
This coal mine opened in 1900 as the Nara Coal Mine and operated until 1971. Today, the shaft turret and coal hopper still remain. Visitors will tour the site, which is normally inaccessible, to see the shaft turret, once called the best in the East, and its surrounding facilities, with commentary on the history of the area.

In principle, the site is privately owned and off-limits to visitors, but only those participating in the guided tour may enter.

Open-Air Museum
The Open-Air Museum is located behind the Mikasa City Museum and is the main course of the Mikasa Geopark, a 1.2 km one-way walking path where visitors can enjoy walking through geological formations, coal mines, fossils, and other sights. Why not experience a 100-million-year time travel, which is the theme of the Mikasa Geopark?

Junior high school students and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
