Otaru Snow Light Path is a winter tradition in the port city of Otaru where the streets are decorated with countless snow candles. The main venues are the Otaru Canal and the former Japan National Railways (JNR) Temiya Line, which still retains the history of Otaru as the gateway to the development of Hokkaido. The canal, with floating candles made from fishing equipment floating on the water, is a great photo spot. The Temiya Line site, with its snow candles and snow slide, is a popular spot for tourists to interact with the many foreign volunteers. In order to encourage visitors to "enjoy Otaru's food as well," tickets are available (and will be on sale) for special deals at sushi, sweets, and noodle stores during the Snow Light Path.
